EE.UU: declaran estado de emergencia en Nueva York y Nueva Jersey por tormenta de nieve

El gobernador Andrew Cuomo declaró el estado de emergencia en Nueva York ante la tormenta de nieve que se prevé que comience este noche, a la vez que dispuso del cierre de varias carreteras y de la autopista de Long Island, así como la reducción de velocidad en puentes y otras vías.   El Long Island Expressway y la Interestatal 84 hacia el valle Hudson estarán cerradas al tránsito a la medianoche.   "Hago un llamado a los neoyorquinos a tener precaución, evitar los viajes, y a permanecer en sus casas", indicó Cuomo en comunicado de prensa.   El Gobernador recordó que la Autoridad Metropolitana de Transporte de la zona de la ciudad de Nueva York (MTA, por sus siglas en inglés) ha advertido que las temperaturas gélidas y los fuertes vientos pueden conllevar la suspensión del servicio de trenes y autobuses en ciertas zonas para proteger tanto a empleados como sus usuarios.   Igualmente, Cuomo advirtió que los aeropuertos de Nueva York están abiertos pero las líneas aéreas han suspendido ya cientos de vuelos, que se unen a miles cancelados a través de los estados de la región nordeste afectados por la primera tormenta invernal del 2014.   El gobernador de Nueva Jersey, Chris Christie, también declaró el estado de emergencia en preparación para el paso de este fenómeno atmosférico. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency in New York before the snowstorm that is expected to begin this evening, while ordered the closure of several highways and the Long Island Expressway and the speed reduction bridges and other roads.   The Long Island Expressway and Interstate 84 to the Hudson Valley will be closed to traffic at midnight.   " I call on New Yorkers to exercise caution , avoid travel , and stay in their homes," Cuomo said in a press release .   The Governor said that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority 's Near the city of New York (MTA , for its acronym in English ) has warned that freezing temperatures and strong winds may result in suspension of bus and train service in parts to protect both employees and users.   Similarly, Cuomo warned that New York airports are open but the airlines have suspended hundreds of flights that thousands paid through the states of the Northeast affected by the first winter storm of the 2014 meet.   The governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, also declared a state of emergency in preparation for the passage of this atmospheric phenomenon.
